The position carries the rank of Professor and will have a starting date of July 1, 2016, or as otherwise negotiated. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Sociology or a closely related field, a nationally or internationally recognized record of scholarship, excellence in teaching, and administrative experience. The department specializations are: culture; crime, law and deviance; demography; organizational, political and economic sociology; race, class and gender; and social psychology. Call for Applications: Early Career Work and Family Fellowships

The Work and Family Researchers Network (WFRN) is seeking applicants for 2016 Early Career Work and Family Fellowships. The goal of the program is to help promising young scholars establish career successes, as well as connect them to the WFRN community. Fifteen scholars will be selected for the program.  Fellows receive a one year membership in the WFRN, conference registration, and $500 to help defer expenses to attend the 2016 WFRN Conference (to be held June 23-25 in Washington DC). At the conference, special events will be targeted to serve interests of fellows, including networking opportunities with senior scholars and teaching/research workshops. In addition, fellows will be connected with one another in periodic encounters beyond the conference, intended to facilitate collaboration and peer-mentorship. To be eligible, candidates must have received their doctorate in 2013 or later and have yet to progress into tenured or secure senior level positions.  Eligibility is not restricted on the basis of national location. Job Posting: University of Virginia

The University of Virginia Department of Sociology seeks to fill a non-tenure track Lecturer position during the 2015-2016 academic year. The initial one year appointment may be renewable for an additional year contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and departmental teaching needs. A teaching load of 2-2 is anticipated, and compensation will take the form of part-time salary with part-time benefits. This appointment is not eligible for ECE (Expectation of Continued Employment). Subject areas of particular need include, but are not limited to, Sociology of Health and Illness, Medical Sociology, Crime and Deviance, Environmental Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Inequality.
