Job Posting: Open Rank Position, Health Management, McGill University

The Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University invites applications for an open rank position in health management. The expected starting date is August 2016; and the teaching load and salary are competitive.

The Desautels Faculty of Management has over 70 full-time professors, of which about 20% are primarily interested in health management research and well connected to the research hospitals of the McGill University Health Centre as well as to health policy makers. The teaching programs in the area of health management include a Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program in Healthcare Operations and Information Management for PhD students, a joint MD-MBA program with the Faculty of Medicine, and an International Masters in Health Leadership program for practicing managers.

In light of the multidisciplinary nature of this domain, the position is sponsored by the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM). The Institute’s mandate is to develop an integrated approach to management — one that breaks down disciplinary barriers, embraces multiple perspectives, and encourages holistic thinking about organizations. While Desautels Faculty of Management is organized according to traditional functional areas (e.g., Finance, Marketing), MDIIM provides the infrastructure for faculty members from across these Areas to collaborate; and also facilitates collaborations with other McGill faculties. Addressing issues at the intersection of health and management is a priority of MDIIM, hence the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Institute’s research, teaching and outreach goals, while also being active in her/his own Area.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in any field of management (e.g., Information Systems, Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategy) or a related field (e.g., Engineering, Health Administration) is required. The applicants need to demonstrate potential for research and teaching excellence in health management. The MDIIM is particularly interested in candidates with novel and integrative research programs and strong methodology expertise (quantitative and/or qualitative). The appointed individual will be expected to collaborate with healthcare providers, administrators and policy makers in tackling some of the prevailing challenges faced by the health sector including improving access to healthcare, health informatics, ensuring quality of care and implementing change in the health sector.

Application: The application deadline is November 13, 2015. Applications should include: (1) a cover letter briefly outlining research and teaching interests; (2) an up-to-date curriculum vitae; (3) sample research papers; (4) documentation of teaching effectiveness, if available, and (5) a list of four references and their contact information. Applicants should submit their application package to Kristen Oliver kristen.oliver@mcgill.ca. Queries about this position can be addressed to MDIIM Associate Director Vedat Verter at vedat.verter@mcgill.ca.

McGill University is committed to equity in employment and diversity. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
